What is commonly referred to as the Lord’s prayer is actually the disciple’s prayer.\u00a0 Jesus is instructing His disciples on how to pray in Matthew 6.\u00a0 The Lord’s prayer, His intercession for His disciples and for us, is found in John 17.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites\u00a0are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/span>But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/span>But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>After this manner therefore pray ye: <\/em><\/p>\n

Our Father<\/span> which art in heaven,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God,\u00a0even\u00a0to them that believe on his name:\u00a0<\/span>Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>John 1:12&13<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba,\u00a0Father.\u00a0<\/em> Galatians 4:6<\/p>\n

Hallowed be thy name.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.\u00a0<\/em> Exodus 20:7\u00a0 (Jesus is God.)<\/p>\n

\u00a0Thy kingdom<\/span> come.\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

God’s kingdom is His rule in the hearts of men now and the eventual earthly rule of Christ in the Millennial Kingdom.\u00a0\u00a0He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I\u00a0come\u00a0quickly. Amen<\/em>.\u00a0Even\u00a0so,\u00a0come,\u00a0Lord\u00a0Jesus.\u00a0 <\/em>Revelation 22:20<\/p>\n

Thy will<\/span> be done in earth, as it is in heaven.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>I delight to do\u00a0thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 Psalm 40:8\u00a0 \u00a0What are we praying for?\u00a0 \u00a0How is it in heaven?\u00a0 In heaven there is no sin.\u00a0 In heaven there is perfect submission to God.<\/p>\n

Give us<\/span> this day our daily bread.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven,\u00a0shall he\u00a0not much more\u00a0clothe you, O ye of little faith?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em>Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.\u00a0 Matthew 6:30-33<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

And forgive us<\/span> our debts, as we forgive our debtors.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:\u00a0<\/em>But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.\u00a0 Matthew 6:16&17<\/em><\/p>\n

And lead us<\/span> not into temptation,\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 …the believer’s desire to avoid the dangers of sin altogether…*\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/em>\u00a0Teach me thy way, O LORD, and\u00a0lead me\u00a0in a plain path, because of mine enemies.\u00a0 Psalms 27:11 \u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

but deliver us<\/span> from evil:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

…to drag out of danger, to rescue, to save…**<\/p>\n

For thine is the kingdom,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>and the power,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>and the glory\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>for ever.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
