{"id":2708,"date":"2020-01-19T04:54:50","date_gmt":"2020-01-19T04:54:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leadinghorsestowater.net\/?p=2708"},"modified":"2020-01-20T03:01:59","modified_gmt":"2020-01-20T03:01:59","slug":"the-disciples-prayer-forgive-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadinghorsestowater.net\/?p=2708","title":{"rendered":"The Disciple&#8217;s Prayer &#8211; Forgive Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span class=\"jesus\">After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">Thy kingdom come.\u00a0 Thy will be done in earth, as\u00a0it is\u00a0in heaven.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">Give us this day our daily bread.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">Matthew 6:9-12<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Forgive us.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0\u00a0<em>For\u00a0all\u00a0have\u00a0sinned,\u00a0and\u00a0come\u00a0short\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0glory\u00a0of God;<\/em> Romans 3:23.\u00a0 Sin is the willful transgression of God&#8217;s law.\u00a0 As sinners, we owe a debt.\u00a0 <em>For\u00a0the\u00a0wages\u00a0<\/em>(penalty)<em> of\u00a0sin\u00a0is\u00a0death; <\/em>Romans 6:23a<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Death is separation.\u00a0 Physical death is separation from the body.\u00a0 Spiritual death is separation from God.\u00a0 Jesus Christ paid that debt for us on the cross.\u00a0 He became sin for us, who knew no sin.\u00a0 He died in our place.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The primary meaning of the word forgive is <em>to send forth<\/em> or <em>to send away<\/em>.*\u00a0 A forgiven debt as referred to in Matthew 6:12, is <em>a completely cancelled debt.*\u00a0<\/em> \u00a0When we accept Jesus Christ as our substitute, we are accepting God&#8217;s provision for our sin. Our sin debt is cancelled and the righteousness of His Son is credited to our account.\u00a0 We are forgiven.\u00a0 This means we are delivered from sin&#8217;s penalty (separation from God) and the cause of the offense is removed (sent away).*\u00a0 <em>As\u00a0far\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0east\u00a0is\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0west, so\u00a0far\u00a0hath he removed our transgressions\u00a0from\u00a0us.\u00a0<\/em> Psalm 103:12<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span class=\"jesus\">If certain conditions are met, there is no limit to Christ&#8217;s law of forgiveness.*<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>Jesus saith unto him,\u00a0<span class=\"jesus\">I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/em>Matthew 18:21-22<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0The conditions of forgiveness are repentance and confession.*<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>And the times of this ignorance God winked at; <strong>but now commandeth all men every where to repent:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><em>Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by\u00a0that\u00a0man whom he hath ordained;\u00a0whereof\u00a0he hath given assurance unto all\u00a0men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.\u00a0<\/em> Acts 17:30&amp;31<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Repentance is a changing of the mind.\u00a0 Genuine repentance results in a change of direction.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span class=\"jesus\">Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee <\/span><\/em><span class=\"jesus\">(repents)<\/span><em><span class=\"jesus\">, thou hast gained thy brother.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"jesus\">But if he will not hear\u00a0thee, then\u00a0take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span class=\"jesus\"><em>And if he shall neglect to hear them<\/em><em>, tell\u00a0it\u00a0unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church <\/em>(no repentance)<em>, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.\u00a0<\/em> Matthew 18:15-17\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Confessing our sins is acknowledging our sin (naming it and taking responsibility for it), agreeing with God against ourselves.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us\u00a0our\u00a0sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.<\/em>\u00a0 I John 1:9<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Forgive us&#8230;&#8230;..as we forgive our debtors.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mercy should beget mercy, but it doesn&#8217;t always.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span class=\"jesus\">Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span class=\"jesus\">But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have<\/span><span class=\"jesus\"> patience with me, and I will pay thee all.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span class=\"jesus\">But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took\u00a0him\u00a0by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span class=\"jesus\">So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"jesus\">And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span class=\"jesus\">So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>Matthew 18:23-35<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8230;let the word of Christ dwell in you richly&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*Vine&#8217;s Complete Expository Dictionary of New and Old Testament Words;
