{"id":279,"date":"2015-01-19T03:13:29","date_gmt":"2015-01-19T03:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leadinghorsestowater.net\/?p=279"},"modified":"2015-02-24T01:00:04","modified_gmt":"2015-02-24T01:00:04","slug":"who-is-the-weaker-vessel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadinghorsestowater.net\/?p=279","title":{"rendered":"Who Is the Weaker Vessel?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&#8220;Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them (wives) according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife as unto the weaker vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered&#8221; \u00a0I Peter 3:7.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When the Bible says &#8220;weaker vessel&#8221; in reference to wives, it commands husbands to\u00a0give &#8220;honor&#8221; unto the wife as the weaker vessel. \u00a0Weaker vessel with honor carries the idea of fragility combined with great value like a precious vase or a priceless painting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Honor, according to WE Vine and the American Heritage dictionary, means to value, to highly esteem, to respect and to prize. \u00a0 For the husband this means giving the wife an exalted position without lording it over her or ridiculing her. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When Christ&#8217;s disciples argued over who would be greatest among them, Christ taught them that he who would be greatest would be servant of all. \u00a0The husband who is serious about being a spiritual leader in his home must have a servant&#8217;s heart. \u00a0He must lead by example, by doing, by serving.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Occasionally it&#8217;s hard to tell,\u00a0between husband and wife, who is the weaker vessel, because some husbands refuse to do what they consider to be women&#8217;s work. \u00a0There are only two things that are truly women&#8217;s work: having \u00a0babies and nursing them. \u00a0Everything else is on the table for both husbands and wives. \u00a0A servant&#8217;s heart is not selective.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Often the husband&#8217;s priorities are not the wife and kids. \u00a0If they were, husbands wouldn&#8217;t be stepping over the wife&#8217;s still, exhausted body on the way out the door to unwind after a rough day at work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The wife is the weaker vessel? \u00a0Husbands, do you really believe that? \u00a0If you do then gather the wife up off the floor and watch the kids for the rest of the evening. \u00a0Lay your troubles aside and engage the wife in adult conversation for an hour or so. \u00a0Don&#8217;t try to give advice, just listen and if necessary, make decisions. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Husbands, give the wife the TV control and finish cleaning up the kitchen and folding the clothes for her when she needs a break. Ask the wife if there is anything that she needs to be done first, \u00a0b<\/strong><strong>efore embarking on your agenda for the evening or weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you truly believe that women are the weaker vessel, then demonstrate man-strength by giving the wife a hand and by giving it with honor! \u00a0Quit debating with her. \u00a0Listen to the wife and address her concerns. \u00a0Quit demanding a following. \u00a0Quit trying to herd the family rather than lead it. \u00a0Quit wondering why no one will &#8220;king me&#8221;! \u00a0Get out front and lead by serving. \u00a0Y<\/strong><strong>our kids are watching.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Part of giving the wife honor is treating her with respect and ensuring that the children do the same. \u00a0Early in our marriage when the kids were quite young, I impressed upon the children, that an offense against their mother was an offense against me. \u00a0I rarely had to deal with disrespect.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>For those in Christian ministry, the family often becomes secondary in priority to the ministry. \u00a0In these cases the ministry is doomed to failure* unless priorities are corrected. \u00a0If the husband is not\u00a0doing\u00a0right by the wife his prayers will be hindered and if the children are not in subjection, the father and husband is disqualified from leading the church. \u00a0<\/strong><strong>*Failure of ministry referred to here is not referring to fewer numbers, volume or scope. \u00a0Failure of ministry is the loss of God&#8217;s power to do His work biblically and therefore effectively.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>A husband should not be all things to all women. \u00a0The only opinion that should concern a husband is that of what his wife thinks of him.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>A Christian husband who thinks of his wife as inferior to himself and who subsequently treats her this way, is\u00a0not thinking biblically.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them (wives) according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife as unto the weaker vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered&#8221; \u00a0I Peter 3:7.
