{"id":28,"date":"2014-07-21T02:09:22","date_gmt":"2014-07-21T02:09:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leadinghorsestowater.net\/?p=28"},"modified":"2021-10-31T20:16:48","modified_gmt":"2021-10-31T20:16:48","slug":"walking-in-the-spirit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadinghorsestowater.net\/?p=28","title":{"rendered":"Walking in the Spirit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>There is a much misused verse in the Old Testament which says;<em>\u00a0Delight thyself\u00a0also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart\u00a0(Psalm 37:4).\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>This verse is not a blank check to fulfill one&#8217;s wildest dreams nor is it a promise of independent wealth. \u00a0It is a promise that if a believer will delight himself in the Lord, then the Lord will place His desires within the believer&#8217;s heart.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So, how do we delight ourselves in the Lord? \u00a0In John 5, Messiah Jesus is talking to the religious leaders of the Jews and He says;<em>\u00a0And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he <\/em>(the Father)<em> hath sent, him ye believe not. \u00a0Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they <\/em>(the Scriptures)<em> are they which testify of me <\/em>(Jesus Christ)<em>. \u00a0And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>To know Christ we must come to the Scriptures. \u00a0Scripture testifies of Christ. \u00a0If we have little or no interest in the Bible, we have little or no interest in Him. \u00a0The Holy Spirit will draw us to the Bible. \u00a0Satan will drive us away from it. \u00a0Delighting in Christ involves reading, studying and meditating on the Scriptures because these are they which testify of Him. \u00a0After the Lord&#8217;s resurrection, He instructed two of His disciples on the road to Emmaus as follows:<em>\u00a0And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Ephesians 5:18 says;<em>\u00a0And be not drunk with wine wherein is excess; but be filled with the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 <\/em>The command here is twofold; to not be drunk (controlled by alcohol or anything else for that matter), but to be being controlled (continuous action) by the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Drunkenness illustrates \u00a0how behaviour is affected when one is controlled by alcohol. \u00a0On the contrary, being controlled by the Holy Spirit is in vivid contrast to the world&#8217;s behaviour. \u00a0All Christians are to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. \u00a0The characteristics of a Spirit filled believer are found in Ephesians 5:19-21. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So how are we to be filled with the Holy Spirit? \u00a0There is a parallel passage to Ephesians 5:18-6:9 in Colossians 3:16-22 which deals with the same subject matter as Ephesians 5. \u00a0Instead of using the phrase <em>be filled with the Spirit, <\/em>the Colossians passage substitutes;\u00a0<em>Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Being controlled by the Holy Spirit is the filling of our hearts and minds with the Scriptures by listening, studying, meditating on, and obeying the word of God out of a willing heart.
