Parts 1A & B of this series are an introduction to the Work of the Holy Spirit Today, from the book of Ephesians. \u00a0If you have not read Part 1A & B recently, it would be helpful to scroll back to those blog articles and re-read them before beginning Part II A.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The first reference to the Holy Spirit in the book of Ephesians indicates that one aspect of His ministry is the sealing of believers. “In whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Ephesians 1:13 NKJV<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIn whom also\u201d<\/em> is a continuation of the theme \u201cIn Him\u201d<\/em> or \u201cin Christ\u201d<\/em> that begins in verse three of chapter one and continues through verse thirteen. \u00a0Paul writes that we are chosen in Christ. \u00a0In Him we have redemption and forgiveness of sins through His blood. \u00a0We are purposed in Him. \u00a0In Him we have obtained an inheritance and in Him we are sealed with the Holy Spirit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Believers are sealed \u201cin Christ\u201d<\/em>. \u00a0For in Him (God) we live and move and have our being<\/em>\u00a0(Acts 17:28). \u00a0 Paul\u2019s first letter to the Corinthians also says; \u201cNow He who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us, and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0II Corinthians 1:21&22 NKJV<\/strong><\/p>\n

Believers are sealed by the Holy Spirit when we believe on Christ. Our believing and His sealing are simultaneous. \u00a0One cannot be a Christian today and not have the Holy Spirit. \u00a0Romans 8:9b says; \u201cNow if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 One becomes a Christian by believing in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as one’s only hope of salvation. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The action of <\/strong>\u201chaving believed, you were sealed\u201d<\/em> or \u201cupon believing, you were sealed\u201d <\/em>is a one time action in the past. \u00a0This construction is also passive which means that the subjects “you” or “you believers” were acted upon in the sealing by God Himself.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His.<\/em> \u00a0II Timothy 2:19<\/strong><\/p>\n
